Tonight Tess was going with my aunt Chris to Blackfoot, for my cousin Natalie's little girl, Ellie's birthday day party. Well, since I told Tess a couple of days ago about this, she has been sooooo excited! She was supposed to dress up in a princess dress & they were going to have a princess party. So, Tess gets home from preschool this morning, just right before lunch, & starts quizzing me about who Chris is & does she really know where Ellie lives. So, I assure her, Yes, everything is fine & you'll make it to her party at the right house. After lunch is done, she goes down stairs to pick which dress she will wear & puts on her princess dress & gets ready for the ball, at 12:30. The party doesn't even start until 6:00 pm. Whatever! She was excited! So, Dad gets home from work & we run to store & Tess picks out what she wants to give to Ellie. Everything is all ready! Chris was supposed to pick Tess up right around 5:00. 5:10, 5:15, now 5:20 rolls around & Tess is quite concerned. About then Nat called & said Sorry my Mom is running a little slow. I get off the phone & tell Tess, that Chris is running slow. And Tess in her sweet 5 year old manner, sits there with a puzzled look on her face & then replies, "Well, Mom is she running fast or slow?" I sat there for a minute to take all of this in, & it dawns on me that she took it literal. She had been so excited all day & ready for this party & she could not figure out why Chris was running to our house & not driving. So, I said, with a smile on my face "Tess, she's just a little late, she'll be coming. She replies, "Well, Mom she must be running slow if she's this late, not fast!" As I'm sitting here typing this, I'm chuckling over how sweet & innocent a comment that is. I love this about kids! They take things so literal! So, nonetheless, Chris made it & Tess had a Grand Time! She was so excited over the crown, bracelets, candy, & whistle. Thanks, Nat & Ellie for inviting Tess, she LOVED every minute of it, & she was so thankful that she didn't really have to run with aunt Chris to Blackfoot, but rather drive.
